(AGES SIX AND UP)

Overview

Our group instructors teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical styles in guitar, piano and drum group lessons. Beginners work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight and rhythm reading along with theory. Each lesson will challenge you with a new technique or music theory, and ends with something fun – such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of method books based on student needs and preferences, and encourage students to bring song suggestions to their lessons to learn their favorite tunes.

What’s the #1 reason to participate in group lessons at San Diego School of Music?

Our group instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits each class as well as your individual needs, and explores the student's favorite type of music. Whether you're a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to an instrument after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations. All students are grouped together by experience level and group lessons cost a fraction of the the cost of private lessons.

What will I learn from group lessons at San Diego School of Music?

Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight and rhythm reading along with theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of methods and build in multiple levels to each lesson plan so every student can challenge themselves and progress according to their skill level. We also encourage students to bring their song suggestions to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.

Do I need to purchase an instrument to join group lessons?

San Diego School of Music offers acoustic guitars, electric keyboards, and drum basics for group lessons you can use when getting started which rent for $22.50/month (supply limited). We also offer a variety of instruments for purchase that are appropriate for beginners, starting at just $89.00.

How young can my student start to take lessons?

We have students join our programs as young as 6 years old if a parent believes their student can focus and pay attention through the lesson. Since each lesson has multiple level options built in students can progress at their own pace without feeling discouraged or left behind. If we become aware that it just isn't the right fit yet  for your child we will make other arrangements with you and discuss what other options might be a good fit.
